Sell Books and Ebooks Online Work at Home Mom Business

Selling books is easier than you think. Without much effort at all, you can gain some extra spending money and with a little more effort, you can supplement an income (which is about where I am with things) and with even more effort, you can make it your main income.

Knowing where to sell your
books, is half the battle and once you determine what you are going to sell, then the place becomes the next most important thing to plan.

I love Romance, Mystery, and General Fiction so that is what we will talk about. It is always a good idea to start with what you like the best and be prepared to spend time. The following are the steps you can take to get started.

• First of all, look around you and find any
books you absolutely do not want or need. If you’re like me, you’ll have them all over the place.

• The next thing you want to do is ask friends, neighbors, relatives and anyone you run into if they have any books they want to get rid of. Only accept in good condition if there is a choice, otherwise take what they’ll give you. After you exhaust this source, then check yard sales, flea markets, and places like that. I never spend more than 10 to 25 cents/pence for a single book.

• The next thing to remember that the books in the categories I deal with (Romance, Mystery, General Fiction) only do well with paperbacks. I have never really had much success with hard cover books as they cost a lot to mail/post and also there is not much demand for those used. The exception to this is if you have a book that is rare but that is a subject for another time.

• I find that the best place to sell these books once you’ve gathered them together is on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk for those in the UK and http://www.amazon.com for those in the States). Once you reach the home page then look for the link that says “Sell Your Stuff” and there you will find complete instructions how to sell on Amazon. You will have to register with Amazon if you have not already done so but it is a painless procedure. The other place to sell books is Ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk or http://www.ebay.com), however it has been my experience that selling books on Ebay one at a time will likely end up costing you. You will without a doubt have more success with Amazon.

• When you have listed your books on Amazon, make sure you have a record (listing) of what books you have in your stock. It is more time consuming but it is best to have a listing that consists of Title, Author, and summary of book (you’ll find excellent summaries already done on Amazon under the books found listed. You will need this so you can send your current stock to customers that have purchased from you…when you add new books, it gives you an opportunity to let your customer base know. Your customer base is made up of those you have sold to in the past.

Well!!!! All of the above will keep you busy but once you list on Amazon, the listing stays there for 60 days and then you will receive an email letting you know the listing has expired. The easiest thing to do is click on the re-listing link they provide and re-list it immediately. When you sell your book, it automatically removes your book from the available list and you need not do anything.

PRICING

How much should you sell your
books for you say? That’s an easy one!!! Put your price below the lowest Marketplace price already there. During the listing process, you will see the lowest price it is for sale already or perhaps you will be the only one listing that particular title. Amazon gives a recommended price but I generally start my pricing at half of that. Amazon already takes care of postage but you can generally mail for a third of what they allow which enables you to lower your prices. You can actually sell your books for a penny and make a profit so feel free to list for a penny if that is what the market will bear. If you ship your customer’s books out the next day, you do not have to use first class mail. Those of you in America can use book rate which is much less than first class rate.

The rest is up to you. I’ve given you some ideas, pointed you in the right direction. Remember, I do this all the time and it really does work! Feel
free to email me with questions if you run into a problem. I’d be glad to help. There’s room for all of us in this market.

Elaine sells her
books on Amazon and other items on eBay. You can find out more about her and her husband by visiting her main site at: http://elaineandruss.com/.
